1. GETTING STARTED
The day of the operators starts in the cabin, here one by one, the team members arrive and log-in into the table. This allows the table to recognize who will be working on the plan and give each of them personal information to check before initiating the collaborative moment.
This information can be notes left from colleagues, the status of the machine that they will be driving during the day and tracks of performance during the last 7 days including sustainable goals.
オペレーターの1日はキャビン（休憩所）から始まる。スタンプ（物理ツール）の指紋認証を経てメンバーはeCollabにログインをする。個人を認識することでそれぞれへの特定の伝達項目を表示することができ、ミーティング前の情報整理につながる。これらの情報には、前日に働いていた同僚からの伝達項目、当日に使われる機械のステータスや、ここ一週間のパフォーマンスのトラッキングデータ、サステナブルな目標等が含まれる。
2. PLAN THE ROUTES
Route planning is vital for the protection of the soil, the forest flora and valuable areas like cultural heritage sites. This moment can be an opportunity for cooperation between harvesters and forwarders.
Together they can discuss which routes to take while analysing valuable data like topographic and moisture maps, as well as develop strategies to avoid certain areas or deal with sensible terrains.In this moment, the shared stomp controls the layers visible on the table and the personal stomp it’s used as a tool box, where each individual can select pens, erasers, or for a brief moment take a look at a different layer in his drawing area.
ルート決めは、森林植物や文化遺跡等の価値あるエリアを含む、土壌の保護の観点で考慮が必要不可欠である。ルート決めはフォワーダー(切断機)とハーベスタ(収穫機)のオペレーター同士の協力を促す。彼らは共に土壌湿度やトポグラフィーなどの価値あるデータ分析を行い、土壌の弱いエリアを避ける戦略を立てる。共有スタンプは地図のレイヤー選択、個人スタンプはそれぞれのペン、消しゴムツール、エリア選択が可能。
3.SELECT ROUTES
Selection of trees, is equally important when it comes to harvesting, especially during processes like thinning or when applying the continuous cover forestry model. Operators discuss strategies about tree selection by getting access to an overview of the range of trees on site and also individual indicators about each tree, like diameter, volume, species and age.
We developed a filter tool, that allows the table to only select the trees between a certain age or diameter or to increase or decrease the proportion of tree species, for example prioritize taking more pine over spruce. We also included an overall sustainability measure.
ツリーセレクションは収穫時に重要とされ、特に間伐時や、継続的被覆林業をを進める上で注視される。オペレーターたちは、ワークサイトでの植生範囲や、直径や種、年齢等のそれぞれの木の基本情報にアクセスでき、戦略を練ることができる。私たちは、直径や年齢の数値範囲を絞り表示できるフィルターツールも提案。
4. INSIDE MACHINE
Inside the machine is the moment where the plan is relayed to the operator. Here, the operator follows the devised plan and the system assists in making sure that he is complying with it. Giving feedback to the operator when he is going off route or selecting the wrong tree.
But what if something doesn’t go according to plan, for example, a broken tree that should be removed appears? In that case he is the one giving feedback to the system, explaining why he decided to take that tree. The operator always overrules when it comes to decision-making, and the system only assists.
いよいよマシン内操作時に、eCollabで計画したデータが転送される。そしてスクリーンに表示された情報が木の選択、ルート決定に大きなサポートとなる。もし計画と違った行動が行われる場合、履歴が自動更新される。また、計画されていた木が腐っていた場合など、やむを得ないケースはオペレーターからもフィードバックを作成できる。事前決定された計画は臨機応変に変更可能。
5. LUNCH BREAK
During lunch break, we wanted the table to be part of the social setting. In the activity, the table gives to the operators information about the fauna and flora of the site that they are harvesting in the moment. It can be about a rare bird species, about a mushroom that grows abundantly in the area, or if Sami use it for reindeer herding.
We believe that this kind of interaction can help operators understand the intangible values of the forest and motivate them to care more. It can also help them bond with each other by telling stories and sharing knowledge for the ones that already nurture a deep care for the forest.
昼休憩時にも社交の場を提供。テーブルが、作業中の地域の動植物の情報を提供。希少種の鳥やキノコ、サーミ（スウェーデン原住民）が放牧で育てる鹿などだ。このインタラクションで森林の無形の価値について理解するきっかけとなる。また森林について詳しいオペレーターが知識を共有する機会、そしてオペレーター同士の絆を深めるきっかけとなる。
6. FEED BACK
Finally, the last moment of the day, it’s when the operators come back to the cabin before heading home. This situation can be valuable for two reasons.
The first one is for team feedback. During this moment teammates can discuss their day, and give each other tips about how to improve their performance or how to cope with given situations better.
The second reason is to improve team communication. During this moment, colleagues can leave messages and comments to the colleagues taking over the next shift, making sure that no information gets lost.
とうとう帰宅前にキャビンに戻る最後の時間だ。チームメイトはその日の内容について話し合い、お互いの改善点やそれに対した解決策を伝え合う。またその日に話し合われた内容は次のシフトの人々にも伝達される。
RESEARCH TRIP
To gain a better understanding of the harvest process, the operator’s experience and the forestry industry itself, the we had an intense research phase with a two-day field trip. During this research phase, methods like interviews, observation and contextual inquiry were applied.
間伐プロセス理解向上のための二日間の集中的なリサーチトリップを通し、オペレーターの日々そして林業について理解を深めた。インタービュー、観察、コンテキスト照会を進めた。
CO-CREATION WORKSHOP
The material gathered was then presented to a number of stakeholders, during a co-creative session, with the purpose of exchanging insights and ideas. The session was structured in two moments, first a presentation of the research findings and introduction to the focus areas of the group and second a follow-up workshop with the participants to elaborate design opportunities and concept directions.
リサーチを通して得られたマテリアルはステークホルダーを招待し発表され、洞察やアイデアを共有する機会となった。加えて、リサーチを通して出たフォーカスエリアをもとにワークショップを開催し、デザインに落とし込める可能性やコンセプトの方向性を話し合った。
FINAL PRESENTATION AND EXHIBITION
Our project was developed throughout 45 days, and in this amount of time, we gained a lot of knowledge about forestry but also about team dynamics and collaboration. During the course of the project, our team was able to improve communication and develop better ways of designing together.
45日間の期間を通して私たちのプロジェクトは完結した。これらの時間を通してスウェーデンの林業の現状について理解を深めただけでなく、チームダイナミクスや共同作業の大切さについて学ぶきっかけとなった。それと同時に、インターナショナルなグループワークを進めていく上で、私たち自身もどう円滑なコミュニケーションをとり共により良いデザイン提案を考えていくか考えを深めることができた。
